Settings

Use the settings in this section to change the appearance of groomable splines.

Visibility

Toggles the display of groomable splines on and off.

Density

Sets the number of splines per unit area to generate, before any mask, compensation, or culling is applied.

Syn

When on, the grooming Density value is used to set theDensity of the default splines generated in the Description.

Sampling
Linear

When on, newly added splines take the shape of the nearest existing guide.

NoteThis option removes all brush operations when the Density is changed. If this occurs, you can retrieve the data by importing the PTEX files saved in the set Export location. See File > Import Grooming.
Nearest

When on, newly added splines take the shape of the nearest existing guide. When Density is set to high values, Nearest can cause hair clumping.

Interp

When on, the shape of newly added curves is interpolated from the shape of the nearest curves.

Mask

Sets a scaling value for the Density. For example, setting Mask to 2.0 doubles the groomable spline Density.

XUV

Specifies the directory where you want to save the points (.xuv) file. This file specifies the points that are populated by groomable splines. XGen uses these points to place default splines for preview and rendering.

Tip Color

Opens the Maya Color Choose which lets you select a color for tips of splines.

Base Color

Opens the Maya Color Choose which lets you select a color for the base of splines. For best results, use a color that is darker than the tip. Tip Colorand Base Color should be two different colors rather than different brightness of the same color.

Display

Toggles between the display of Lines and Cards when painting with a brush.

Length

Sets the global initial length of the groomable splines. Use the Length brush to increase of decrease spline length in specific areas of the surface.

Width

Sets the global initial width of the groomable splines. Set the Width brush to increase of decrease spline width in specific areas of the surface.

TPU

Sets the number of texes per unit created and displayed on the geometry surface.

See Understanding texels.

Export

Specifies the location where the groom PTEX maps are automatically exported. The default value of ${DESC}/groom. The auto-export is triggered when the Description is previewed.
