Parent and unparent animation layers

You can parent animation layers to create hierarchical relationships in the Animation Layer Editor. See Animation layer hierarchy for more information on parent-child layer relationships.

To parent an animation layer

  1. Select the animation layer you want to make the child of another layer.
  2. -drag and drop the layer onto its parent layer.

The selected layer becomes a child of the layer you dragged it onto.

Tip

If the parent layer already has other child layers, you can expand the parent layer and drop the new child layer into any position within the hierarchy. If you drop the new child layer onto a collapsed parent, it is placed last among the child layers in the hierarchy.

To unparent an animation layer

  1. Select the child animation layer you want to unparent.
  2. -drag and drop the layer into any position at the top level of the stack.

The selected layer is no longer a child layer.

    Tip

You can also unparent the layer and automatically place it at the top of the stack by -dragging it onto the BaseAnimation bar.
