Maya comes with both Bullet versions 2.8.1 and 3.0 pre-installed, but uses 2.8.1. as the default.
If you want to use Bullet v.3.0 instead, you will have to set an environment variable. For more information, see Directly modify the settings files.
To switch the environment variable to use Bullet 3.0:
- Use the following guide to locating your Maya Preferences file:
Windows
- (Windows XP)
\Documents and Settings\<username>\My Documents\maya\2014\en_US\prefs
- (Windows XP 64bit)
\Documents and Settings\<username>\My Documents\maya\2014-x64\en_US\prefs
- (Windows Vista and Windows 7)
\Users\<username>\Documents\maya\2014\en_US\prefs
- (Windows Vista and Windows 7 64bit)
\Users\<username>\Documents\maya\2014-x64\en_US\prefs
Mac OS X
- /Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/Autodesk/maya/en_US/2014/prefs
Linux (64-bit)
- ~<username>/maya/2014-x64/prefs
- Locate the following line:
Anywhere in the Preferences file.
- Save and close the file.
Maya will now use Bullet 3.0.
NoteBe aware that Bullet v3.0 Rigid Body OpenCL acceleration has a number of restrictions:
- Soft bodies cannot use the OpenCL accelerator.
- Bullet v3.0 collision support only and collision shape types.
- Do not use Bullet v3.0 solver acceleration for any rigid and soft body interactions.
