To send a new Maya scene to Softimage

  1. In Maya, select the objects you want to use in your ICE effect.

You must select at least one object to send to Softimage, otherwise you are prompted to send the entire scene. If you select a specific object to send, this object is automatically sent in subsequent updates if no other objects are selected.

  2. Select File > Send to Softimage > Send as New Scene.
    Note

If Send to Softimage does not appear in the File menu, you may need to reload the OneClick.mll plug-in. See Load or unload Maya plug-ins.

Softimage starts with the new scene displaying the selected objects. Maya and Softimage are now connected as indicated in both application status bars.

  3. Create your ICE particle or deformation effect in Softimage.

For information about ICE effects, see the Softimage Wiki: http://softimage.wiki.softimage.com/index.php/Interoperability_with_Maya.

  4. In Softimage, select File > Send to Maya > Update current Maya scene to send the ICE effect to Maya.

Softimage creates an nCache, then sends the updated scene and nCache to Maya.

You can make changes to the objects in the scene or add new ones, then send the scene back to Softimage to update your ICE effect. See Updating adding or deleting objects
