About displacement material

For more information on the displacement material, see Displacement material.

Find this material in the Create bar.

Displacement

Connect a one-dimensional (height) displacement map to this attribute to create surface relief for your model. The default displacement value is 0.

Vector Displacement

Connect a three-dimensional (x, y, z) displacement map to this attribute to create surface relief for your model.

Scale

Tweak this attribute to adjust the effect of your vector displacement map, for example, to make it more or less pronounced.

Vector Encoding

Floating Point Absolute: Select Floating Point Absolute if your vector displacement map uses a floating point encoding format such as .exr or 32-bit floating point .tif.

Signed Encoding: Select Signed Encoding when your vector displacement map is defined by a fixed point encoding format such as .jpg or .bmp.

Note

If you are using Mudbox to create your vector displacement map, you must use the .exr/.tif formats and select Floating Point Absolute as your Vector Encoding.

Vector Space

Indicates the vector basis for your vector displacement map.

World: vector displacement in x, y, z world space co-ordinates.

Object: vector displacement in x, y, z object space co-ordinates.

Tangent:

  • x: vector space displacement in tangent direction
  • y: vector space displacement in normal direction
  • z: vector space displacement in binormal direction
Tangent

Use this attribute to connect a map that provides a tangent for your surface. This attribute is only applicable if you select Tangent as your vector space.
