The quick layout buttons let you switch to one of a few common panel layouts quickly.
on one of the layout thumbnails to change the layout/panels the button loads.
on a box in the layout thumbnail at the bottom to change the content of a panel in the current layout.
on the layout thumbnail to change the current layout.
