Specifies how the initial state (or start position) of an nCloth or nParticle object is set.

Initial State > Set from Current

Sets the selected nCloth or nParticle object’s initial state (or start position) for simulation to the current state of the nCloth (output mesh) or nParticle object. For nCloth, setting the Initial State of your object sets the shape of the cloth at the start frame. It does not affect the input mesh or rest position.

Note

If you have cached your scene prior to setting the initial state, playback the simulation to get to the frame from which you want to set the initial state. If you scrub through the Time Slider the initial state may be invalid.

Initial State > Set from Mesh

Sets the selected nCloth’s initial state (or start position) for simulation to the state of another selected mesh (that has matching topology).

Initial State > Relax Initial State

Simulates the selected nCloth or nParticle object for the specified number of frames and then saves its current state as its initial state. For nCloth, Relax Initial State is useful when you want to settle nCloth clothing on its model so that it appears to be under the influence of gravity, without having to play back its entire scene’s animation.

Steps

Specifies the number of steps (frames) to run the simulation.

Damp

Specifies the amount the motion of the current nCloth or nParticle object is damped. Damping progressively diminishes the movement and oscillation of nCloth or nParticle object by dissipating energy, resulting in faster settling of the object.

Initial State > Resolve Interpenetration

Simulates the selected nCloth for the specified number of frames to resolve geometry intersections and interpenetrations at the start frame, then saves its current state as its initial state.

Note

Not all intersections and interpenetrations can be solved using Resolve Interpenetration.

Steps

Specifies the number of steps (frames) to run the simulation.

Push Out

Sets a force that pushes out objects that are intersecting or interpenetrating, to the nearest point on the current nCloth object’s surface. A value of 1 pushes objects out in one step, while lower values push out in more steps but provide smoother results. A positive Push Out value results in objects pushing in the direction of the surface normal. A negative Push Out value results in objects pushing in the opposite direction of the surface normal.

Crossover Pushout

Sets a force applied to objects along the contour where they crossover with the current nCloth object. Crossover Push works only at the point of crossover so it may take several steps for the surface to reach a good state. Use Crossover Push to correct sharp edges.

Damp

Specifies the amount the motion of the current nCloth object is damped. Damping progressively diminishes the movement and oscillation of nCloth by dissipating energy, resulting in faster settling of the nCloth.

Ignore Gravity

When on, Gravity is disabled for the current nCloth object for the duration of the resolve.

Initial State > Clear Initial State

Clears the existing initial state from the selected nCloth or nParticle object, and resets the object to its original state. For nCloth, this set the cloth to its input mesh shape. For emitted nParticle, this set the object back to pre-emission state.

Note

You may need to rewind to the beginning of your simulation to see the effect of Clear Initial State.
