Mattes protect specific areas of the image when you apply paint, filters, or Special Effects media to the canvas. You can also use mattes to limit the area of a cutout.

To use the matte:

1. Click Use to enable the matte.

   
   

2. Paint on the image.
3. Click Use again to disable the matte.
