Installing Other Supported Fonts

Most TrueType, CID, and OpenType fonts that you use on a Windows or Macintosh system can be copied to the Linux system for use with Flame.

NoteTrueType Collection (.ttc) fonts are not supported directly. These must be converted to (non-compressed) TrueType font (.ttf) files. Their conversion is beyond the scope of this document.

To install other supported fonts:

  1. Using an FTP or other file transfer utility, copy the fonts from the Windows or Macintosh system to the Linux system.
  2. In the transfer utility, set the transfer format to binary mode.
NoteIn Mac OS 9 (and earlier) TCP programs, select the MacBinary option. In OS X, you will need to install a utility, such as BinJuggler, to encode the files before transferring.
  3. Log in to your Linux system as root.
  4. If necessary, in a terminal, copy the fonts to the directory of your choice.
  5. The next time you start Flame, you can load and select the fonts.
NoteWhen entering non-Latin text characters in Flame, consult your system documentation to make sure the required input method packages are installed. For example, to enter Chinese characters, you can use the chinput package.
