The following table outlines one way of editing. You may perform the steps in a different order, or you may not even need to use all the steps in your project.

Step: Refer to:
1. Splice video and audio clips together to create a rough approximation of the final project. Editing to the Timeline.
2. Add dissolves and wipes to the clips. Dissolves and Wipes.
3. Refine the content of the clips by trimming frames. Trimming.
4. Adjust the playback rate of clips, reverse playback, or freeze frames. Timewarps.
5. Edit to additional tracks or layers on the timeline to lay the foundation for compositing or audio mixing. Vertical Editing.
6. Create assorted effects such as composites, colour corrections and wipes. Soft Effects.
7. Create a final audio mix. Audio.
