TipBefore you assign
materials, first try to replace any imported materials with Autodesk
Showcase materials. See
Replace materials.
Assign materials to objects
- Select the object or objects you want
to assign a material to.
- Press the M key
(or select Material > Materials).
Materials in this Scene are shown at the top,
and Material Libraries are shown below.
NoteIf you cannot select objects or view the
Materials interface, press Tab to change to edit mode. (For more
information, see Select objects

- Click on a library or a material category
to see a list of its materials.
- Click on the icon for a material from
one of the lists.
The material you choose
is assigned to the selected objects.
- To remove the material interface from
the display, press the M key.
Copy assigned materials to other parts
of the model
- Select an object whose material you want
to copy.
Select objects
- Select Material
> Copy Material (or press Shift+C).
- Select another object you want to assign
the same material to.
(You can select any number of objects by holding
down the Shift key.)
- Select Material
> Paste Material (or press Shift+V).
Assign a material that is currently in
the scene
- Press the M key
(or select Material > Materials). To
open the Materials UI, if not already visible.
- At the top of the interface are the Materials
in this Scene.
The list indicates which materials are currently
assigned in the scene, which materials are included in alternatives,
and which materials are locked because they were imported with the
model files.
- Click the swatch icon of any material
to apply it to the selected object.
NoteIf a material in the scene is edited by
right-clicking the swatch and choosing Properties...,
those edits will be reflected in all objects with that material
applied. However, if the Material Properties window for a selected
object is used, it will create a copy of the material with those
edits in the Materials In This Scene.
