Raster Paint

The raster paint module in Composite is represented by a supertool node. The Paint node lets you work at any resolution, with any number of layers, and bit depths.

The paint node contains one or many layers of raster images and the compositing operators combine them to produce a single output image.

All operations, including painting, can be carried out while viewing the whole composited layer stack. Painting can be applied to any layer in the stack and the composite view is constantly maintained. Individual layers can also be muted selectively.

The Paint tool UI consists of three areas:

(a) Layer editor  (b) Paint brush controls  (c) Stroke controls

Committing and Undoing Operations

A "stroke" is all actions painted on the canvas until you press any key or move the cursor out of the current viewport to commit. If you do not commit after each action, you can undo multiple paint strokes.

For example, if you use a 20-pixel brush to apply several strokes to the canvas and then click Ctrl + Z (or Cmd + Z for Mac OS), all strokes created with this brush are erased. On the other hand, if you press Spacebar between each stroke and then undid the action, the strokes are erased one at a time.
