Fur
render settings are the attributes that define how the fur renders.
In addition to the render settings you would normally define (see
Render Settings window in
the Rendering guide), you must define
fur-specific render settings before rendering.
To set up Fur Render Settings
- In
the Rendering menu set select
Fur > Fur Render Settings and
set the appropriate fur render options. For descriptions of these
options see
Fur Render Settings.
- If rendering with mental ray, choose
a quality preset in the Quality tab
of the mental ray tabs in the Render Settings window (
Windows >
Rendering Editors > Render Settings):
Use Production:
Rapid Fur Quality Preset option as a
good starting point. Use the Production: Fine Trace Quality
Preset option if you want to trace fur or hair in reflections.
NoteIf rendering using
mental ray with Primary Renderer set to Scanline (in
the Features tab of the Render
Settings window), note that fur renders faster when Raytracing is
turned off. It renders more slowly, but results in higher quality,
if Raytracing is turned on.
Set up Render
Stats for each fur description
To specify render settings
for each fur description, use the attributes in the Render
Stats section of the FurFeedbackShape node of that fur
description. Some attributes are used only for rendering with mental
ray for Maya.

corresponds to the fur description. If the FurFeedbackShape node
is not displayed press Ctrl+a.
- In the FurFeedbackShape node, go to the Render Stats section
and turn on or off the desired attributes. For descriptions of these
attributes, see
Render Stats.
Set up mental ray render

each fur description. Use the attributes in the mental ray section
of the FurFeedbackShape node of that fur description.
