Add Labels to a project to indicate points of interest like the name of a landmark, a body of water, a park, or a golf course.

  To insert and adjust text labels

1.Create a new, or open an existing project.
2.Insert a terrain model, as described in Terrain Models, if one has yet to be inserted into the project.
3.From the Insert menu, click Label > Text.

A new label is placed at the default position in the main viewport and a Label object is added to the Objects window.

4.In the Object Properties window, make the following settings on the General tab;
Name – Specify the name of the label object. This is the object name that appears in the Objects window.
Text – Enter the text you want displayed with the label in the main viewport. You can also provide a description of what the label is calling out.
Explicit Positioning – Enter X, Y, and Z coordinates to position the label in the main viewport. Move the slider at the bottom  to set the label elevation.

You can also reposition the label by clicking and dragging the small box (grasp point) at the bottom of the label to the desired position.

Note: Grasp points are only displayed when Edit Mode is active. You can enable or disable edit mode by clicking ico_edit_mode or using the shortcut CTRL+E.

5.Click the Appearance Settings tab to make the following settings;
Color & Transparency –  Select colors for the label text and for the border surrounding the label text.
Select Font –  Select a font to use for the label text. You can also set the font size and stylization.

Note: In the Type tab of the Objects window, labels are arranged according to their font size.

Border –  Specify how wide the border appears around the label text.
Elevation –  Specify the height of the label text above the label grasp point.
Left, Center, Right –  Specifies how the label text is oriented in relation its grasp point.
Billboard –  Enable if you want the label text to always remain perpendicular to the camera as you rotate the model. When disabled, the label text remains static.

  To insert and adjust label groups

1.Create a new, or open an existing project.
2.Insert a terrain model, as described in Terrain Models, if one has yet to be inserted into the project.
3.From the Insert menu, click Label > Label Group.

When inserting a label group, you are prompted to select a vector data file, such as a shape file (.shp).

4.In the Import Text & Icon Labels dialog box, define how the labels are represented, including text attributes, icons, height offsets, size, etc.

Tip: Depending on the view distance, you may not see the labels if size setting is too small. Make sure to set increase the size if  this is the case.

  To insert and adjust symbol labels

1.Create a new, or open an existing project.
2.Insert a terrain model, as described in Terrain Models, if one has yet to be inserted into the project.
3.From the Insert menu, click Label > Symbol.
4.In the Insert Symbol dialog box, select a symbol that will represent the label. For example, the @ symbol.
5.Click Insert.
6.In the Object Properties window, make the following settings on the General tab;
Name – Specify the name of the label object. This is the object name that appears in the Objects window.
Font – Displays the font.
Size – Enter a new font size if the default value is too small.
Symbol – Click the symbol icon to open the Insert Symbol dialog box.

You can select a new symbol from the current font family or select a new font and pick a symbol from the new font family. Selecting a new font will change the Font display.

Transparency –  Set the symbol transparency ranging from 0 to 100% where 100% means the symbol is completely transparent.
Elevation –  Specify the height of the symbol above the label grasp point.
Show Pole –  Enables or disables the post connecting the symbol to the grasp point.

 

  To insert and adjust image labels

1.Create a new, or open an existing project.
2.Insert a terrain model, as described in Terrain Models, if one has yet to be inserted into the project.
3.From the Insert menu, click Label > Image From File.

When inserting an image label, you are prompted to select an image to display as the label.

4.In the Object Properties window, make the following settings on the General tab;
Name – Specify the name of the label object. This is the object name that appears in the Objects window. You can also provide a description of what the label is calling out.
5.Click the Settings (1) tab to make the following settings;
Size – Specify the size of the image.
Aspect Ratio – Move the slider to squash or expand the image, or enter a value.
Transparency – Set the image transparency ranging from 0 to 100% where 100% means the symbol is completely transparent. Default = 0.
Elevation –  Specify the height of the image above the label grasp point.
Show Pole –  Enables or disables the post connecting the symbol to the grasp point.
6.Click the Settings (2) tab to make the following settings;
Billboarded – Enable if you want the image to always remain perpendicular to the camera as you rotate the model. When disabled, the image remains static.
Fading – When enabled, you can adjust the image fade.
Dynamic Size Adaptation – When enabled, you can use the slider to further adjust the image size.
