TextureWizard

Creates a texture projection and support for the selected elements.

To use: See Using the TextureWizard [Texturing].

Projection Type

Defines the type of support to create. Note that different projections types have different options.

  • Planar XY: Projects the texture along the Z axis onto the XY plane.

  • Planar XZ: Projects the texture along the Y axis onto the XZ plane.

  • Planar YZ: Projects the texture along the X axis onto the YZ plane.

  • Cylindrical: Projects the texture as though it is a cylinder wrapped around an object.

  • Spherical: Projects the texture in a spherical pattern with collapsing at the poles.

  • Spatial: Projects the texture through the object in 3D.

  • Camera: Projects the projection from the camera onto elements in the scene. When you click OK, you will be prompted to pick a camera from a 3D view, explorer, or schematic.

  • UV: Projects the texture along the U and V parameters of NURBS surfaces.

  • Lollipop: Wraps the texture around the top of an object, with the corners meeting at the bottom like the wrapper of a lollipop.

  • Purely Implicit: Creates a texture projection that is computed based on a mathematical formula rather than interpolated UV coordinates. The projection's parameters (projection type, position, and so on) must be set from the Texture Projection Definition Property Editor because a purely implicit projection has no texture support.

  • Cubic: Assigns polygons to different parts of a texture based on their normal direction or proximity to the faces of a hypothetical cube. Applies to polygon mesh objects only.

See Types of Texture Projection [Texturing].

Parent to Object

Makes the texture support a child of the affected object. For multiple objects, each object is the parent of its own support. For a group, this option is ignored and the support is unparented.

This option applies to planar, cylindrical, spherical, lollipop, and cubic projections.

Projection Name

Specifies a name for the newly created texture projection.

Support Name

Defines a name for the associated texture support object.

This option applies to planar, cylindrical, spherical, lollipop, and cubic projections.

Coordinate System

Determines the alignment of the support object:

  • Default uses Object Space on objects and Best Fit on components.

  • Best Fit tries to maximize the amount of texture covering the selection. It is typically used for local projections on selected polygons.

  • Object Space aligns the support with the object's local axes.

  • World Space aligns the support with the scene's global axes.

This option applies to planar, cylindrical, spherical, lollipop, and cubic projections.

Default Projection Type for Mesh Objects

Specifies an alternative projection type to use when a UV projection is applied to a polygon mesh object.

This option applies only to UV projections.
