Measure distance between two circle centerpoints

This feature is only available in the Professional version of Showcase, and only as of the 2012 R1 release.

Use this tool to determine the distance between the centers of two circles. Do this by creating two circles based on three-point arcs, as described in the following procedure.

During this procedure, when you create the first circle, the radius and center point coordinates of that circle are displayed. This is useful for finding information about holes or circular objects in your sceneā€”for example, wheels.

NoteWhenever this procedure instructs you to click somewhere, you can alternatively click and drag to find the exact location you want.

To measure the distance between two circle centerpoints:

  1. Select Present > Measure > Distance Between Two Circle Centerpoints.
  2. Click on an object where you want to place the first point of a circle.

The coordinates of the point are displayed.

  3. Click where you want to place the second point.

The distance between the two points is displayed.

  4. Click a third point.

Showcase extrapolates an arc from the three points and creates a circle based on that arc. The coordinates of the circle center point are displayed, as is the circle radius.

  5. Repeat the previous three steps to create a second circle.

Showcase displays the two circles, a line connecting their respective centerpoints, and the distance of that line.

TipThe two other measurement procedures, namely displaying coordinates and measuring the distance between two points, can actually be accomplished within the preceding procedure. In step 3, you display the coordinates of a point. In Step 4, you see the distance between two points.
