Associating accent lights and geometry

Accent lights must be associated with geometry in the scene for the lighting to be visible, and for Auto placement and Interactive placement to work correctly. Accent lights can be associated with imported geometry in the scene from either the accent lights interface or the Accent Light Properties window.

Note

Ray tracing shadows from accent lights will be cast by all objects, regardless of whether they are associated with and illuminated by the accent light or not. To remove the shadowing of the object, open the Appearance > Directional Light and Shadows window, and set “Shadows are cast by:” to Specified Objects and remove the object from casting shadows.

In the accent lights interface:

  1. Press the L key (or select Appearance > Accent Lights) to open the accent lights interface.
  2. Select the geometry to be associated.
  3. Right-click the swatch for the accent light to bring up its context menu.
  4. Choose Add Selection To; alternatively, choose Remove Selection From to unlink the accent light from the objects.

In the Accent Light Properties window:

  1. Select the geometry to be associated.
  2. Click the Choose>> button.
  3. Select Add Selection To; alternatively, choose Remove Selection From to unlink the accent light from the object.
  4. The third option, Select Associated Objects, will select geometry linked to this accent light.
