Create shots from an FBX file

You can use an application like Autodesk 3ds Max or Autodesk Maya to create an FBX file containing camera information, then import this file into Showcase as a shot or multiple shots. Regular cameras will turn into still shots, and animated cameras will become animated shots. Only perspective cameras are supported.

To import shots from an FBX file:

  1. Select Story > Camera Shots to open the Shots interface.
  2. On the Shots overlay, click Create > Import from files.
  3. Select an FBX file and click Open.

The Import Cameras dialog box opens. It contains a list of cameras found in the FBX file. By default, they are all selected in the Will Import column. They retain the names given to them in the original modeling software.

  4. To exclude cameras from the import, deselect them in the Will Import column.
  5. Enter a value in the Sample rate box.

Supported values are between 20 and 120. Generally the default of 30 is acceptable, however you may want to try higher values to increase smoothness for animated cameras.

  6. Adjust the Up-Axis and Unit controls as needed to match your original camera.
  7. Click OK.

The new shots appear in the Shots overlay.
