The Selective Redraw preference settings let you set the defaults for timecode and timeline updating.

The Draw Timeline On Selective Redraw option lets you specify whether the Timeline is updated. Activate this option to update the timeline. Disable it to achieve faster frame rates by skipping the automatic Timeline update. This option is active by default.
The Draw Timecode On Selective Redraw option lets you specify whether the time code is redrawn. Activate this option to update the Timecode, disable it to achieve faster frame rates by skipping the automatic Timecode update. This option is active by default.
