Properties window A. Visibility property B. Visibility Inheritance property

Visibility

The Visibility property's behavior inherits by default. A child of a hierarchy inherits its visibility from its parent. If you turn the visibility property of a hierarchy's parent off by unchecking the Visibility checkbox, the entire hierarchy will become invisible in the viewer, even if the child's visibility property is turned on.

Users can change this default by locating the "<MachineName>.Application.txt" configuration file in the MotionBuilder program files. The VisibilityInheritance option can be changed to reflect the user's preference.

Tip

Press Shift-V to toggle the visibility of selected objects in the Viewer window.

Visibility Inheritance

A new Visibility Inheritance feature has been added to control the inheritance behavior for each object. Users can control inheritance behavior by turning this option on or off. By turning Visibility Inheritance off for an object, those objects beneath it will no longer reflect the behavior of the parent. This new property is useful to stop inheritance behavior from being propagated down a hierarchy.

NoteScene files saved in previous versions of MotionBuilder have Visibility Inheritance turned off by default. New objects created in MotionBuilder 2012 will have this property turned on by default to help keep performance optimal.
