Node Editor marking menus

In addition to the Node Editor toolbar and menu, the Node Editor marking menus provide an additional way for you to customize your Node Editor graph.

Work area marking menus

Access the work area marking menus by right-clicking on any empty area in the Node Editor.

Create Node

Select this option to open the Create Node window.

Select All in Graph

Select this option to highlight all of your nodes in your Node Editor graph.

Select Items in Stream
This option selects the upstream and/or downstream items for a node. Select a node, then the work area for the marking menus and select this option. Three choices then appear: Select Upstream, Select Downstream and Select Upstream and Downstream. This option is also available from the node marking menus. See Selecting upstream and/or downstream nodes in the Node Editor for more information.
Graph Materials on Viewport Selection
Select this option to graph the shader(s) applied to the object(s) selected in your scene view.
Sync Node Editor/Viewport Selection

Enable this option so that if you highlight a node in the Node Editor, the same node is also selected in the scene and vice versa. You can also toggle this option on and off using the hotkey c within the Node Editor or by clicking the and icons from the toolbar. indicates that selection is synchronized and indicates that it is not. See Selection in the Node Editor for more information.

Add to Graph on Create

Enable this option so that when you create a node in the scene, it is also added to the Node Editor. If this option is disabled, only nodes that you create using the Node Editor (for example, using Tab creation or drag and drop creation; see Create a Node for more information) are shown. You can also select this option from the Node Editor Options menu; or, you can also enable/disable this option by clicking the lock button to lock/unlock the view. See Locking the Node Editor view for more information.

Additive Graphing Mode

Use the Additive Graphing Mode option to add a node to an existing graph. Enable this option, select a node and click one of the , and icons to graph your selected node and add it to the existing network. You can also access this option from the Options > Additive Graphing Mode menu. See Adding a node graph to an existing network graph for more information.

Pin all nodes by default
Select this option so that all newly created nodes are pinned by default. For more information regarding pinning, see Pinning a node to the Node Editor view. You can also access this option from the Options menu.
Display

Customize your graph in the Node Editor by selecting any of the provided options. You can also select these options via the Node Editor Display menu. For a description of the available options, see Node Editor Display menu for more information.

Show

Select which object types to show in the Node Editor. You can also select these options via the Node Editor Show menu. For a description of the available options, see Node Editor Show menu for more information.

Create Asset from Viewport Selection / Create Asset with Transform from Viewport Selection

Select this option to create an asset, or an asset with transform, with the objects selected in the scene view.

The most commonly used asset is the asset with a transform node. Assets with transform nodes are most appropriate for collections of objects that you want to manipulate as a whole (for example, multiple pieces of geometry that compose a single prop in a scene).

You can also create an asset without a transform node. Assets without transforms work well for nodes that don’t have parenting relationships in the DAG (for example, lighting and shading).

For more information about assets, see Create assets.

NoteThese menu items only appear when there is at least one node selected in the scene view.

Remove Viewport Selection from Asset

Select this option to remove the selected objects from their respective assets.

NoteThis menu item only appears when there is at least one node selected in the scene view.

Hypershade

Select this option to enable the Hypershade.

Hypergraph

Select this option to enable the Hypergraph.

You can also select the Display menu options, and the Sync Node Editor/Viewport Selection and Add to Graph on Create options by selecting Windows > Settings/Preferences > Preferences > Settings > Node Editor. If you select these options under the Preferences window, the changes are applied the next time you open the Node Editor. See Node Editor Preferences for more information.

Node marking menus

Access the node marking menus by right-clicking on any node in the Node Editor.

Select Items in Stream

This option selects the upstream and/or downstream items for a node. Select a node, then the node for the marking menus and select this option. Three choices then appear: Select Upstream, Select Downstream, and Select Upstream and Downstream. This option is also available from the work area marking menus, and has associated hotkeys. This menu item is only available if the node is selected. See Selecting upstream or downstream nodes in the Node Editor for more information.
Remove Stream Nodes

This option can remove the selected or unselected nodes; or, the upstream or downstream nodes of the selected node. After selecting this option, four choices appear: Remove Upstream, Remove Downstream, Remove Selected, and Remove Unselected. You can also access this functionality via hotkeys. See Removing nodes in the Node Editor for more information.
Regraph Stream Nodes

This option can regraph the upstream and/or downstream nodes. After selecting this option, three choices appear: Regraph Upstream, Regraph Downstream, and Regraph Upstream and Downstream. You can also access this functionality via hotkeys. See Regraphing in the Node Editor for more information.
Inputs

Use the menu items provided to select, enable, and disable all inputs.

Outputs

Use the menu items provided to select, enable, and disable all outputs.

Rename

Select this option to rename your node.

Toggle Swatch Size

Select this option to toggle between a larger and a smaller version of the node swatch. This option only affects the node from which the marking menu is accessed.

Toggle Selection Swatch Size

Select this option to toggle between a larger and a smaller version of the node swatch for selected nodes. You can also use the shortcut v.

Show All Attributes
Select this option to change the node to full mode and to display all of its attributes. The displaying of all of its attributes is only valid for this draw instance. If you regraph the node, or if you change the view mode of the node, you must re-select this option to see all of its attributes again.
Add Attributes

Select this option to open the Add Attribute window. See Create, edit or delete custom attributes for more information.

Delete Attributes

Select this option to open the Delete Attribute window to delete a custom attribute.

Create Asset from Viewport Selection / Create Asset with Transform from Viewport Selection

Select this option to create an asset, or an asset with transform, with the nodes selected in the scene view.

Note the following behavior:

  • If the node from which the marking menu is accessed is the only node selected, an asset is created with only this node.
  • If the node from which the marking menu is accessed is not selected, and there are no other nodes selected in the scene view, an asset is created with only this node.
  • If the node from which the marking menu is accessed is not selected, but there are selected nodes in the scene view, then an asset is created with only the selected nodes.
  • If the node from which the marking menu is accessed is selected and there are other selected nodes in the scene view, an asset is created with all of the selected nodes, including the node from which the marking menu is accessed.
Remove Viewport Selection from Asset

Select this option to remove the selected nodes from their respective assets.

Note the following behavior:

  • If the node from which the marking menu is accessed is the only node selected, then this node is removed from its asset.
  • If the node from which the marking menu is accessed is not selected, and there are no nodes selected in the scene view, then the node from which the marking menu is accessed is removed from its asset.
  • If the node from which the marking menu is accessed is not selected, but there are selected nodes in the scene view, then only the selected nodes are removed from their respective assets.
  • If the node from which the marking menu is accessed is selected and there are other selected nodes in the scene view, all of the selected nodes, including the node from which the marking menu is accessed, are removed from their respective assets.

Connection marking menus

Access the connection marking menus by right-clicking any connection in the Node Editor. The connection is automatically selected.

Break connection
Select this option to break the connection between the linked nodes.
Isolate connected nodes
Select this option so that your graph contains only the nodes linked by this connection.
Select connected nodes
Select this option so that the nodes linked by this connection are highlighted.
