Copy color from a model

You can copy (sample) a color from your model (from the current paint layer) to use it as the current color for your paint brush using the Color Picker.

  1. In the Paint Tools tray, select the Color Picker tool.

The cursor changes to an eyedropper icon indicating the Color Picker is active.

  2. In the 3D View, position the eyedropper over the color area you want to sample and click using the left button on the mouse/stylus.

The color is sampled and loaded into the color channel for all paint brushes. The next time you paint using the Paint Brush the color you copied is used.

To view the color as you sample it, click the Color box in the Paint Brush properties to display the Paint Tool Color window.

NoteCopying a color using the Color Picker takes into account the lighting and shading on the model by default. If you want to sample the diffuse color of the surface without the effect of lighting and shading you can turn on Flat Lighting. You can use the Color Picker and the Flat Lighting feature together by pressing the I hotkey. For more information, see Display a model without lights and shading.
  3. The Color Picker tool remains active until you select another paint or sculpt tool.
