Common licensing problems

This section describes troubleshooting scenarios for Mudbox licensing and startup.

Product Configuration Wizard appears at startup

After installation and licensing, if you start Mudbox and the Product Configuration Wizard or error messages appear, you may have a startup or a licensing problem.

NoteThe Product Configuration Wizard may display a message indicating that you do not have permission to save the license file to the directory (Windows) C:\FLEXLM or (Mac OS X, Linux) /var/flexlm/. A file browser appears where you can save the license to a different location.

You need to have permissions set correctly on the directory to move the license file there. Talk to a system administrator to get permissions set for this directory.

If you need to use the Product Configuration Wizard again, launch it by doing one of the following:

Product Configuration Wizard does not appear

If you are attempting to enter your serial number or activation number and the Product Configuration Wizard does not appear when you start Mudbox (and Mudbox does not start), open the Product Configuration Wizard manually by doing one of the following:

If the Product Configuration Wizard still doesn’t open you may have a damaged or incomplete install. Try reinstalling Mudbox.

Confirming hardware key driver activation

Hardware key drivers enable communication between a computer and its hardware key. The installer upgrades the drivers for your hardware key unless the current version already exists on your computer.

There are several steps to ensure that the driver is installed and active:

If you experience these issues, we recommend the following:

  1. Download Win32 device drivers from the following Web site:

    http://www.aladdin.com/support/hasp/enduser.aspx

  2. Uncompress and install the downloaded file following the instructions provided by Aladdin.
  3. After you install the drivers, restart your system to activate the drivers. This should fix most problems.

Once this is installed, the Device Manager can recognize the USB dongle as an Aladdin USB Key.

If you’re still unable to run Mudbox using a hardware key, please visit the http://www.autodesk.com/support Web site for further assistance.
