The following describes the items located under the File menu.

New Scene

Clears the current scene and creates a new one. Mudbox prompts you to save the current scene before creating a new one when unsaved changes exist.

Open

Loads a saved scene, replacing the current scene. Supported file formats include: .mud, .obj.

Save Scene

Saves the current scene. Supported file formats include: .mud, .obj.

Save Scene As

Saves the current scene under a new name. Supported file formats include: .mud, .obj.

Import

Loads an existing model stored on disk and adds it to the 3D View. Supported file formats include: .mud, .obj.

Import As Layer

Loads an existing model stored on disk into the 3D View and stores it as a layer on the active object. You can specify whether the imported model is corresponded to the active object via Vertex IDs or by UV positions. Use Vertex IDs when the model being imported is identical to the active object. Use UV positions when there have been updates to the imported model that would not allow for a vertex ID correspondence. Delta to Base Layer imports the model to a layer ignoring all layers except the base mesh (default). When turned off, all layers including the base mesh are taken into account during the import.

Import UV

Imports UV texture coordinates from a user-specified .obj file and applies them to the selected model. The imported UVs can be corresponded on the selected model using vertex ID’s or by comparing the world space positions of the vertices on the two models.

Export Selection

Exports the currently selected items (faces, objects) on the model as a separate file. Supported file formats include .obj and .mud.

Recent Files

Select a file name in this list of recently opened files to open it in the 3D View.

Exit

Quits Mudbox. Mudbox prompts you to save before quitting when changes exist in the current scene.
