Mudbox 2015 Readme


Thank you for downloading Autodesk® Mudbox 2015.

This readme provides the latest information regarding the Mudbox installation. It is recommended that you read this entire document before you install Mudbox 2015. For reference, you can save this document to your hard drive or print a copy.

Defect ID Description
362857 If the level of the source model is not the current level when extracting a map, the detail of lower sculpt layers will be missing.

Workaround: Ensure you display the required subdivision level before extracting the map, or select the current level in the Extract Texture Maps window to get the correct result.
363366 Transfer paint layer works incorrectly if target and source have overlapping UVs.
374126 When using a non US-English standard keyboard, some of the hotkeys may not work.

Workaround: Set your IME to "English - United States" while using Mudbox. For more information see your operating system documentation.
381496 When painting or sculpting with symmetry ON, sometimes the result will not appear on the opposite side.

Workaround: Verify that you have "Falloff based on Facing Angle" turned off.
MDBX-260 The Transfer Details function works best on objects that are the same size, or larger than the default Mudbox meshes.

Workaround: If the transfer produces artifacts on the target mesh, try scaling up the source and target meshes to the same size as the default head mesh.
MDBX-292 When using the option “Send to 3ds Max…” changing the units between Max and Mudbox may cause unpredictable results.
MDBX-371 When the amount of texture data exceeds the available GPU on your machine, the effects brushes draw red temporarily if "Solo as Diffuse" is ON for a paint layer.

Workaround: Once the stroke is done, the brush correctly applies the effect and the result is correct. You can turn off the Gigatexel Engine in the Render preferences (which effectively disables the paint buffer) and the effects brushes will work correctly.
MDBX-1203 If a portion of a curve on a mesh is obscured (for instance, if a portion of the curve is on the back side of an object) and you use Stroke on Curve" with mirror ON, results may be incorrect.
MDBX-1400 When creating 16 bit integer tiff layers in Mudbox, Mudbox processes and stores them as floating point pixels. To save 16 bit integer tiffs, export the paint layer as such.
MDBX-1614 On Linux, if Mudbox crashes when starting up with an error message such as "mudbox: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib64/libssl.so.0.9.8: undefined symbol: X509_VERIFY_PARAM_new", try the following workaround:
1. Install OpenSSL >= 1.0.0 if you haven’t already.
2. Point the old symbol link to the 1.0.0 version, like "ln -s -f /usr/lib64/libssl.so.1.0.0b /usr/lib64/libssl.so.0.9.8"
MDBX-1616 An environment variable MUDBOX_EXPOSE_8K exposes "8192" in the Create New Paint Layer "Size" option. (It will not be exposed if less than 512 MB GPU available. 1.5 GB or more recommended).
MDBX-3990 Painting 8k (8192x8192) resolution textures can be unstable with some NVIDIA graphic cards with lower graphics memory.
MDBX-4011 Some SDK examples cannot compile because of QHash.

Workaround: If there is a syntax error with Qt header files when compiling the SDK examples, adding the correct Qt subdirectory to the #include declaration may fix it. For instance #include <QHash> would become #include<QtCore\QHash>.
MDBX-4175 There may be vertices displacement artifacts around the center line at the Retopology result, when Sculpted Details is enabled at Transfer to new mesh, Based on Axis is on for Symmetry, From one side of source is selected at Transfer Sculpting/Painting. This artifacts is likely happens on triangle mesh and triangles will be dragged to across the center line if mesh is subdivided.

Workaround: Use the smooth sculpt brush to smooth these artifacts out manually.
MDBX-4274 Wacom driver 6.3.5-3 will cause Multi-Touch to stop working.

Workaround: Update driver to 6.3.6-w3 or newer to get rid of this issue.
MDBX-4400 On Mac OS X, when "Export Channel to PSD" with multi-tile UVs meshes, and these PSD files already opened by Adobe Photoshop, they may not get updated correctly in Photoshop.

Workaround: Check the "Auto-Update Open Documents" preference in Photoshop.
MDBX-4453 If the level of the source model is not the current level when extracting a map, the detail of lower sculpt layers will be missing.

MDBX-4454 Transfer paint layer works incorrectly if target and source have overlapping UVs.

MDBX-4456 When painting or sculpting with symmetry ON, sometimes the result will not appear on the opposite side. Verify that you have "Falloff based on Facing Angle" turned off.
MDBX-4652 Paint layer with 8k resolution is not supported if you are using Intel® HD Graphics.
MDBX-4654 Mudbox may detect incorrect GPU memory space on Intel® HD Graphics.

Workaround: If you experience painting performance issues, set the GPU memory to 512MB or 1024MB using the MUDBOX_FORCE_GPU_RAM environment variable.
MDBX-4718 Deleting faces after PTEX setup may result in a corrupt .ptx file when exporting channel to .ptx or extract texture maps using Ptex map type.

Workaround: Re-setup model for PTEX
MDBX-5219If you use the Intel® HD Graphics Driver (version, 15.28.20.3347 or 15.33.14.64.3412), it will lead to some texture painting artifacts in Mudbox.

Workaround: Roll back to 15.31.17.64.3257, or try the latest one.
MDBX-4814When extracting displacement map using “Smooth Target UVs” option, you may not get matching render results in Maya or Pixar’s RenderMan.

Workaround: Before extraction, subdivide the target low resolution mesh a couple of times with UV smoothing on (unless the target mesh is already high resolution). Then use the highest level of the target mesh as the target for map extraction.
MDBX-5264Set blendmode to "Dissolve", "Darker Color", "Lighter Color" or "Soft Light" for the last paint layer inside a paint layer group may not give a correct result after "Merge Group".

Workaround: Try avoiding using these blendmode for the last paint layer inside a group.
MDBX-5367On Fedora OS, you may need to install some decoder plug-ins to play Mudbox learning movies
MDBX-5551Mudbox fails to match Maya image plane if the Fit Resolution Gate attribute of Maya camera is set to values other than Horizontal and Film Translate attribute is non-zero.
MDBX-5392ReCap Pro instead of ReCap mentioned in the 2015 Installation Help on the media of Mudbox 2015.
