Release Notes - Autodesk Alias 2016 Readme file

In a continuing effort to provide high quality products, Autodesk has released Autodesk^® Alias^™ 2016. This file highlights known issues in this release.

Installation

• The mental ray for Maya plug-in is a separate installer for Maya 2016. It is available for all platforms on the Maya download web page. It must now be installed and uninstalled separately from Maya.

VRED Design/AutoStudio for Mac

• If you participated in Alias beta programs and have a previous version of Alias 2016 installed, the Alias version may not update properly unless the previous version is deleted properly. (399840)
  Solution: Delete Alias from /Applications/Autodesk/ and then empty system Trash before installing Alias 2016. If you encounter errors that some files cannot be deleted, log off and then try emptying the Trash again after logging in again. When the Trash is empty, Alias can be installed.
• VRED Design for Mac: The AutoStudio installer allows users to change the install path but VRED Design ignores the modified path and continues to install in the default folder, /Applications/Autodesk/. (VRED-4377)
  Solution: To install VRED Design to a different path, first install to the default location and when the install is complete, move the folder containing VRED Design from /Applications/Autodesk/ to another folder. This only affects VRED Design on MacOS.
• VRED Design does not recognize the AutoStudio license properly when AutoStudio is activated from a 30-Day trial.
  Solution: Re-install VRED Design after activating AutoStudio on the Mac using the following steps:
  1. Drag the VRED Design folder from /Applications/Autodesk/ to the Trash,
  2. Run AutoStudio installer again in Standalone mode and deselect all products except VRED Design.

Alias to VRED Material Workflows

• Alias shaders tagged as chrome metal revert to plastic in VRED. (VRED-4432)

Modeling

• In Alias 2015, Align behavior changed in the following way: Modifying the degree of the slave surface causes the tangent arm lengths to reset based on the last aligned surface. The tool does not keep track of the changes you might have made on the arm lengths. Use the Accept button to preserve the arm lengths, before changing the degree. (398691)
• Align may fail in some instances from one surface to multi-surface.(400102)
  Solution: A new Align starts when clicking on the second surface. In Align, you can switch between Edge and Project at any time. For that to be possible, in the case of multi-align, the edges and the surfaces need to be continuous. So, even if you choose Project, internally Align selects edges and makes sure they are continuous. In this case the edge chosen is the closest to the mouse and it happens to be the one on the left. When clicking on the second surface, Align will reject it, because the edge chosen for the second surfaces is not continuous with the first one. So, Align starts again, brand new. To make this work, you needs to click on the edges, or very close to the edges that would work if you switched back to Edge. Now, if you clicks close to an edge, but another surface, the slave, happens to be on top, Align will fail to select the edge. But if you click right on the edge, that would take precedence and it will work.
• Cannot change Layer name after resizing the Object Lister window.(399785)
  Solution: Do not resize the Object Lister window when renaming layers.
• If you select more than one layer, right-click and select Duplicate Layer, the layer window appears to become unresponsive. (400597)
  Solution: If this condition occurs, resizing the Object Lister resumes normal behavior.
• Multi Blend - To Undo or reset any Star Point Modification after using the Planar, Normal, or View options, return this field to the Automatic setting. (400476)

• Multi Blend may not achieve tangency in some cases. (400014)
  Solution: The achievable quality of inner continuity depends on the continuity of the reference (surface) edges too. The algorithm is not designed to support composite reference edges with discontinuities. Keep in mind that always single span surfaces will be generated and that there are no simple collinear transitions between the surfaces.
• Stitch and Seam - The Automatic Trim option disables if Modify Range is enabled but not used. (400590)
• Stitch and Seam - Stitch is invisible when Modify Range is turned off. (398809)
  Solution: Toggle Shade off/on causes the surfaces to draw correctly.
• Stitch and Seam - When the seam surfaces are at a low angle to the base surface edge, the seam may not be able to be extended far enough to completely cover the base surface. When this occurs, the base surfaces are trimmed incorrectly. (399971)
• Retrieving a file with an inactive layer that is also the current layer can show incorrect picking behavior. This causes blend points not to snap to geometry in this layer. (400316)
  Solution: Normal picking behavior is restored if another layer is made current.
• Modifying Draft surfaces with history causes Surface Continuity Locators on the Draft edge to be replaced with a Position Locator, or to be deleted if Continuity Check is turned off. (394372)
• The Check Model tool can create hundreds/thousands of internal, external, visible and/or invisible objects, which can cause severe performance issues when combined with very large files. (392742)
  Solution: Running Check Model on a whole file is not recommended.
• Extending trimmed surfaces in the Extend tool sometimes causes the trimmed region to change. (400440)
• Undo is not supported when extending trimmed surfaces in the Extend tool. (398918)
• Under certain conditions, when using the Symmetric Modeling tool moving in the x direction it returns an error that symmetry will break. (398595)
  Solution: Click on the ViewCube face to ensure that the camera is aligned to the principle axes.

General

• The Wacom Mouse is not supported with Alias 2016. (399391)

• If File > Open or File > Save does not accept input, the cause May be that the browser is maximized. (400517)
  Solution: To restore the dialog, right-click the upper left icon of the dialog and select Restore in the pull-down menu.

Data Transfer

• JT file import ignores texture maps on surfaces. (398747)

Vault

• Alias may crash under some rare and specific conditions on a client machine when one user logs out from an account followed by another user logging in using a different account. This should not be a common occurrence and may be caused by a time lag in the logout and login authorization process occurring on the Vault server/Alias Vault Client. (398740)
