General
·
If you are installing
Autodesk Inventor 2016 on a computer which you previously used to run an Alpha
or a Beta build, before starting the installation:
·
Delete or uninstall any
previous versions of the Alpha 1 – 4 or Beta builds.
·
Delete all files/folders
under C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2016
·
Delete all files/folders
under C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Inventor 2016
·
Delete the following
folders:
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Inventor
2016\Content Center
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Inventor\Content
Center Files\R2016\
·
Following installation,
open Inventor, right-click on the ribbon, and select the "Reset
Ribbon" command so that the default ribbon layout changes are initially
displayed. (Right click on the empty grey area to the right of the ribbon, and
select Ribbon Appearance > Reset Ribbon.)
·
Autodesk Inventor 2016
works only on a 64-bit operation system.
·
Update your operating
system before you install Autodesk Inventor 2016. Reboot your system after all
updates are installed.
·
If you are using Windows
7 on a 64-bit system, verify that you have the Microsoft fix for user mode
callback exceptions KB976038. This fix ensures that Autodesk receives the
correct data from Inventor error reports. For more information, and access to
this fix and related Microsoft downloads, see Autodesk Technical
Solution 15492718.
·
Close all Autodesk
applications before installation, maintenance, or uninstallation of the
software.
·
If you download the
source files to a local folder with a name that contains non-English
characters, ensure that the language in Regional Settings is consistent with
the language name of the local folder.
Installation
·
Autodesk Inventor 2016
installs .NET 4.5 SP1 on Windows 7 operating systems. If you have Autodesk
Inventor 2013 installed on the same computer, it is essential that you install
Update 1 for Inventor 2013 SP1.1 to correct issues with running Autodesk
Inventor 2013 with .NET 4.5.
·
Sometimes preinstalled
.Net 4.5 SP1 has something wrong which may cause TrueView
installation failure. Typically, you see error 1935 in the error dialog. To
solve this, you can remove .Net 4.5 SP1 from Add/Remove panel and then
reinstall Inventor .
·
If the installer
prevents you from installing one or more products, pause the cursor over the
red "prohibited" circle beside the product name to get more
information.
·
A new application tool,
Autodesk Application Manager, is installed with Inventor. After you install
Inventor, the Autodesk Privacy Policy displays. Accept the terms and then close
the dialog box. The application is used for detecting Autodesk Service Pack and
Updates later.
·
Autodesk Application
Manager launches after deployment creation is finshed. Click Add Updates. In the Autodesk Privacy dialog
box, accept the terms, and then close the dialog box. The Application Manager
will launch for detecting Autodesk Service Pack and Updates later.
·
Ensure the Inventor
install path does not contain double-byte characters when installing Inventor
on a single-byte operation system.
·
Installation may be slow
due to Microsoft security update KB2918614. If so, the installation will
require 2-3 hours to complete. For more information, please refer to Microsoft support page.
·
If you are using
Inventor with a local language, please also ensure the language pack for
Autodesk Inventor Electrical Catalog Browser is installed so that the
Electrical Catalog Browser can work properly.
·
A Warning 1946 dialog,
referring to the Task Scheduler, may be seen during installation. This is a
benign Microsoft warning and can be safely ignored. Simply click OK on the
dialog.
·
When installing on
Microsoft Windows 8 or 8.1, the installation of the Microsoft .NET 3.5
component will fail if the installation machine is bound to a domain where the
group policy restrictions block this component. You can refer to the following
Microsoft page to solve this problem: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh506443.aspx
Uninstallation
·
During uninstallation,
if error 1910 displays, click OK to continue. Then delete the shortcut that
remains on the desktop. This is a Microsoft issue. Additional issues can be
viewed on the Microsoft
tech page. There is no solution for these issues now.
·

1.
Install all Windows
Updates that are pending on your machine and reboot:
Windows 7: Windows Update is in
the Control Panel, which is accessible from the Start menu.
Windows 8: Windows Update is in
the Control Panel, on the desktop Charms Bar, Settings menu.
It is sometimes necessary to
perform Windows Update multiple times to completely update your operating
system.
2.
Verify that enough disk
space is available on your machine to install Autodesk Inventor 2016.
To
install Autodesk Inventor 2016:
For Electronic Fulfillment users only:
1.
Download the appropriate
Inventor 2016 installation file to a temporary location on your computer hard
drive.
2.
To access the installer,
double-click the self-extracting executable file. Temporary extraction is to
your temp folder. Operating System errors regarding very long path names can
occur if this temporary location is nested too many levels deep.
3.
We recommend that you
use the default destination folder, which is "C:\Autodesk", as the
self-extract destination folder name. After the file is extracted, the Inventor
installer wizard launches automatically. If it does not launch, browse to the
folder where all files were extracted and double-click setup.exe.
4.
To set preferences, in
the Install > Configure Installation dialog box, click the expandable arrow.
5.
After configuration,
begin the installation.
6.
When the installation is
done, click Finish.

A system reboot is
sometimes required if you install a new Autodesk 360 with this installer.
For DVD users only:
1.
Based on the bit type of
your operating system, insert the appropriate DVD.
2.
The Inventor installer
wizard launches automatically. If it does not launch, open the DVD disc and
double-click setup.exe to start the installation.
3.
After configuration,
confirm all your preferences are set as required before starting the
installation.
4.
When the installation is
done, click Finish.
5.
A system reboot is
sometimes required if you install a new Autodesk 360 with this installer.
For more detailed instructions,
please refer to the installation instructions provided with your delivered
media containing Autodesk Inventor 2016.
To verify the installation was
successful, start Inventor. On the Help menu, select About Autodesk Inventor.
If the About box displays: Build: 138, Release: 2016,
the installation was successful.
·
We recommend that you
use a certified graphics card, and that your graphics card driver is up to
date. See the Autodesk Inventor 2015 Release cards and drivers. The
certified graphics cards and drivers are also applicable to Autodesk Inventor
2016.
·
For laptop computers
with both an NVidia GeForce GPU and an Intel integrated GPU, change graphics
from discrete GPU to Intel HD integrated graphics to ensure that Inventor 2016
works correctly.
·
Inventor uses TrueType
and OpenType fonts. Other fonts are not supported.
·
For the document window
title, Autodesk Inventor 2016 follows the setting "Hide Extension for
known file types" in Windows Explorer, like Microsoft Word or Excel.

Inventor exports file formats for
Global BOM, Parts Lists and Revision Tables.
In Inventor 2016, to export the
following formats requires 32 or 64-bit Microsoft Excel to be installed on your
computer.
·
Microsoft Excel Workbook
(*.xlsx)
·
Microsoft Excel 97-2003
Workbook (*.xls)
To export the following database
formats, Inventor uses the “Microsoft Access Database Engine”, which is part of
Microsoft Office. For 64-bit Inventor, you must install 64-bit Microsoft Office
in order to export these files. If 64-bit Microsoft Office is not installed,
you will receive an error message, "Unable to create file: Database
exports require a 64-bit Microsoft Office installation."
