Platforms marked Untested have not been tested in any way by Alias, and at time of press are NOT Qualified. These pages will continue to be updated as new hardware is qualified.
Platforms marked Unsupported indicate that StudioTools cannot operate to our standard of performance, stability or quality and at time of press are NOT Qualified.

Important Notes:
 [1]  Ultra10 supports Creator3D and Elite3D graphics only.
[2]  At the present time, Expert3D and Expert3D-Lite have only been tested on systems running Solaris 8.
[3]  Ensure that you load the correct patch revision. The two-digit suffix at the end of the patch number indicates the qualified patch revision. Installed patch revisions should be the same or greater than the revision numbers shown in the table above unless otherwise noted.
For details on how to obtain and install patches please contact Sun Microsystems or visit the Sun website at www.sun.com
[4]  Solaris 7 releases prior to August 1999 may experience problems reading the StudioTools CD (as well as other ISO9660 CDROMs). In order to successfully install StudioTools 9.6, please ensure that you have patch 107465-02 or a Solaris 7 release dated 8/99 or later (which includes patch 107465-02).
To find out which Solaris 7 version is installed, type the following in a terminal window:
cat /etc/release
If your version of Solaris 7 is dated 8/99 or later, the patch has already been installed and you can begin installation of StudioTools 9.6.
If your version of Solaris is dated prior to 8/99, you must install patch 107465-02 before continuing with the installation of StudioTools 9.6.
[5]  Do not install the following specific patch revisions:
106145-17, 106144-20 or 106148-12 - these may introduce graphics instabilities in the StudioTools User Interface.
The following revisions of these patches have been qualified with StudioTools 9.6:
106145-14 Creator3D Graphics
106144-16 Elite3D Graphics
106148-09 Elite3D / Creator3D (prerequsite for OpenGL)
These earlier patch revisions may be obtained by contacting Sun Microsystems.
[6]  Patches 108605-12 or 108604-14 are only required when running the October, 2000 ("10/00") release of Solaris 8.
To determine which Solaris 8 release is installed, type the following in a terminal window:
cat /etc/release
If the release is dated 10/00 or later, these patches must be installed for StudioTools to display properly.

Limitations and Solutions
Limitation:  The gltest.sh script (included on the StudioTools installation cdrom) does not properly detect OpenGL 1.2.1. When gltest.sh is run on a system with OpenGL 1.2.1, the following warning is returned to the terminal window:
Your installed OpenGL is not the correct version.
Please download OpenGL 1.2 from...
Solution/
Workaround:
Run the following command from a shell:
/usr/openwin/demo/GL/ogl_install_check
This command will report the version of OpenGL currently installed.

Please Read
  • A three button mouse is required.
  • At least 128 MB of RAM is required and 256 MB is recommended to run StudioTools for the Solaris(TM) operating environment.
  • The patches specified in this table are the patches that were used for the qualification process. While it may be possible to use StudioTools for the Solaris(TM) operating environment successfully with earlier or later patches, Alias cannot guarantee their performance or reliability.
  • It may be possible to successfully use StudioTools for the Solaris(TM) operating environment with a non-qualified configuration, but support and maintenance programs will be subject to the Alias Support Services guidelines.
  • Certain Sun Microsystems keyboards have layouts that might make marking menus and hotkey commands difficult to use. On these keyboards the Caps Lock and Control keys are reversed. If you have a Sun keyboard that does not have the Control key at the bottom-left corner and you find hotkeys or marking menus difficult to use, it is recommended that you order a replacement keyboard from Sun Microsystems.
  • The information in this document is current as of the date of publication. Alias will continue to explore new candidates for StudioTools qualification for Sun Microsystems / Solaris (TM) operating environment and will monitor the current configurations. For the most recent information on qualification, please refer to www.aliaswavefront.com/qual_charts/
