The Autodesk Map 5 Service Pack 1 addresses a number of customer requests and fixes some problems. This service pack should improve the performance of your product.
This Readme contains the latest information regarding the installation and use of this service pack. It is strongly recommended that you read this entire file before you apply the service pack to your product. For your reference, you should save this Readme to your hard drive or print a copy.
Please read the following information to take advantage of this service pack.
This service pack is for the English-language locked and unlocked versions of Autodesk Map 5 running on English-language and non-English-language operating systems. This service pack should not be installed on other versions of Autodesk Map.
If you have been experiencing some specific product performance problems, they may have been fixed with this service pack. See "Summary of AutoCAD 2002 Service Pack 1 Fixes".
If you download the service pack using Live Update, the service pack version that you need is automatically identified. If you decide to download the service pack manually, use the following guidelines to determine which service pack to download:
Download and install the locked version of the service pack if you are using one of the following:
Download and install the unlocked version of the service pack in all other instances.
Once this service pack is applied, you cannot run an automatic uninstall to remove the service pack. You should make a copy of all the files that the service pack installs. That way, you can delete the service pack files manually if you want to restore Autodesk Map 5 to its pre-service pack state.
During the installation of the service pack, your user profile is changed to <Unnamed Profile>, and the acad.mnu, acad.mns, acad.mnr, acad.mnl, and acad.mnc files might be recompiled. Any toolbar or menu customizations that were part of your former user profile could be lost. You can easily switch back to the named profile after the service pack installation. However, to ensure that you can restore your menu settings later, be sure to back up all your menu files before the update. See "Important File Backup Information".
Download progress may not be indicated during the update.
If you would like to notify users in a network installation of this service pack's availibility, but you have disabled Live Update notifications, you can use the Bulletin Board in the Today window.

On network-deployed Autodesk Map installations, there are no Live Update notifications on the Autodesk Point A portion of the Today window. As a result, you must download updates from the Autodesk Point A site using an Internet browser and then manually apply them at each workstation.
During the installation of an update, Autodesk Map should not be running on any of the client machines, or else the installation image on the server may be corrupted.
It is also strongly recommended that you apply the update to the administrator machine first. (This is the computer from which the network deployment was installed.) Once you apply the update on the administrator machine, start applying the update on client systems. You must apply an update to each client machine before running Autodesk Map.
During the installation of an update, you are prompted for the original installation CD or network image. Make sure that each computer is connected to the network location where the installation image resides. After you have applied an update to the network image, you need to apply an update to each newly created client you set up.
You cannot run an automatic uninstall to remove this service pack. It is strongly recommended that you make a copy of all files installed with this service pack. That way, you can restore Autodesk Map 5 to its pre-service pack state.
