The workflow for using Revit add-in is easy and straightforward. The following list is an overview of the Revit add-in best
practice workflow.
- Before installing Revit add-in, determine the installation setup best suited for your company. Installing on a system that
is too small can limit functionality or require reconfiguration in the future.
- Install and configure Autodesk Vault server components in the server console. The administrator must create a user account
for each person who needs access to the vault. A user account consists of a login name and password. Refer to the help in
the server console for more information.
- Install Revit and Vault Client on the client workstation.
Next steps when working with Revit Server or a work shared project file:
- Within Revit log into Vault using the Log In command on the Vault ribbon tab. Then open or create a local copy of the project
file.
- Perform a Synchronize with Central. A copy of the synchronized file will be automatically added to your Vault.
- Alternatively you may select Save to Vault from the Vault ribbon to create a new file version in Vault without performing
a synchronization.
NoteFollowing step 2 or 3 you may be prompted to select a folder location within Vault. This prompt can be hidden by configuring
the Share Path property in Vault. See the Revit add-in help topic for further details about configuration and use of Share
Path.
NoteThe Vault Client command Open is not compatible with Revit Server projects or work shared projects. The workflow is that you
edit and save files as you did prior to using Vault. When it's time to restore a file version from Vault the workflow will
not be the same. See the Revit add-in help topic for further details about restoring older versions of work shared files.
Next steps when working with a non-shared project file:
- Open a project file with Revit and select Save to Vault on the Vault tab. The file will be added to Vault and checked in.
- To edit the project use Vault Client to check it out. Within the Vault Client locate the project file, right click and select
Open. When prompted to check out the file select Yes.
- After the modifications are complete select Save to Vault on the Vault tab within Revit.
