MEDIASTUDIO 4.3.2 QUALIFICATION
MediaStudio is the generic name for both the Explore & Advanced Visualizer lines. The versions numbers had been synchronised until now, but as 3Design 4.3.3 had been delivered with PowerAnimator/Studio 8.2, the Explore release was finally called 4.3.3, instead of 4.3.2 and is compatible with PowerAnimator/Studio 8.2.

MediaStudio 4.3.2 will load and run under IRIX 5.3 and many systems (Indy, Indigo2 Extreme) are problem-free in this configuration. However, should you encounter an OS or graphics related problem, the Assist Hotline will only be able to recommend that you "upgrade to IRIX 6.2 including any indicated patches." Assist will still be able to answer questions about the functionality of the package.
Whether you choose to run MediaStudio 4.3.2 under IRIX 5.3 or
IRIX 6.2 (or higher), it is crucial that operating system patches
be applied in order to rectify known problems that will seriously
impede the usability and/or stability of MediaStudio 4.3.2. Please
see the Qualification Chart for exact details.
Customers with valid SGI software support should have already
received IRIX 6.2, which was sent out starting in May 1996. Customers
in North America who have not received IRIX 6.2 yet, should call
the Technical Assistance Center at 1-800-800-4744. International
customers should call their local SGI office.
Qualification for this release was performed using recommended patch sets from SGI. It is strongly recommended that any indicated patches be installed for the proper operation of the MediaStudio 4.3.2 software.
Patch sets are patches that Silicon Graphics recommends you install
on your system. These patches are considered crucial for successful
system operation. Patch sets are updated every month and new patches
are regularly added and replaced as required. It is possible for
new workstations to have a newer patch set installed than what
is listed here. In such a case it is not recommended that you
remove that patch set and downgrade to what is listed here. It
is unlikely that the new patchset will cause any problems but
in the event that a patch related problem occurs you may have
to contact SGI support at the above listed number.
Customers with valid SGI software support can gain access to patches through the worldwide web:
Customers without worldwide web access should call the Technical
Assistance Center or their local SGI office as indicated above.
You can subscribe to an e-mail notification service for patch
sets. This service will give you a detailed account of patch set
modifications and additions. Subscription is located in the Supportfolio
Online Membership section.
