Composer 5.5 will NOT run under IRIX 5.3 at all.
Eight-bit graphics configurations are not supported.
Alias has gone through an extensive testing and qualification cycle and has worked with SGI to ensure that IRIX 6.2, 6.3, 6.4 and 6.5 fully supports Composer 5.5
Whichever OS you choose to run Composer 5.5 it is crucial that operating system patches/overlays be applied in order to rectify known problems that will seriously impede the usability and/or stability of Composer 5.5. Please see the Qualification Chart for exact details.
Composer 5.5 is compiled N32.
All plug-ins must be recompiled and linked using the -n32 and -mips3 compiler flags. Plug-ins from Composer 4.5 or earlier will not work with Composer 5.5, and vice versa.
Minimum System Requirments
R4400+ processor with native OpenGL hardware, or R5000 Indy, with 128Mb
RAM.
Customers with valid SGI software support should have already received IRIX 6.2, which was sent out starting in May 1996. Customers who have not received IRIX 6.2 yet, in North America should call the Technical Assistance Center at 1-800-800-4744. International customers should call their local SGI office.
How To Obtain IRIX Patches
Qualification for this release was performed using the June 99 recommended patch sets from SGI. It is strongly recommended that any indicated patches be installed for the proper operation of the software.
Patch sets are patches that Silicon Graphics recommends you install on your system. These patches are considered crucial for successful system operation. Patch sets are updated every month and new patches are regularly added and replaced as required. It is possible for new workstations to have a newer patch set installed than what is listed here. In such a case it is not recommended that you remove that patch set and downgrade to what is listed here. It is unlikely that the new patchset will cause any problems but in the event that a patch related problem occurs you may have to contact SGI support at the above listed number.
Customers can gain access to patches through the worldwide web:
http://support.sgi.comCustomers without worldwide web access should call the Technical Assistance Center or their local SGI office as indicated above.
Unless otherwise stated, the maximum resolution setting for the graphics
card is 1280x1024.
