File Compatibility:

Maya 1.0 NT and IRIX

Maya 1.5 has the ability to export Maya 1.0 files.

Maya 1.5 can read Maya 1.0 format files.

See What's new in File Formats inWhat's New in Maya 1.5,
and also Data compatibility between Maya 1.5 & previous versions in
Late Breaking News for details.

Maya Cloth Maya Cloth 1.0 is compatible with Maya 1.5.
Maya Live

Maya Live 1.5 is compatible with Maya 1.5.

Maya Live 1.0 will not work with Maya 1.5. You must install Maya Live 1.5 for use with Maya 1.5.

Alias

Maya 1.5 reads Alias 9.0 wire files.

Maya 1.5 exports Alias 8.1 wire files.

MediaStudio Maya 1.5 will also import any 3Design Geo files created since 4.2.
StudioPaint Maya 1.5 is compatible with StudioPaint 9.0. See the StudioPaint documentation for more details.

Maya Cloth 1.0, Maya Live 1.5, Alias 9.0 and StudioPaint 9.0 are scheduled for distribution later this year (1998).

Maya Developer's Tool Kit:

Usage of Maya Developers' Kit requires MIPSpro 7.1 or 7.2 compilers. The MIPSpro 7.2 compiler is strongly preferred. Please see note [p9] under Patch Related information and solutions below.

Platforms marked Untested have not been tested in any way by Alias, and at time of press are NOT Qualified. However, based on all the information we have, if you encounter any problems we recommend you install the indicated patch set.

Tip when installing patchsets:

When installing patchsets you should use the option to install all applicable patches. In inst by using the i A command. In Software Manager select Panes->Command from the menu, and enter i A in the command field when in Customize Installation mode.

Patch Related information and solutions

[p8] Systems running under IRIX 6.5 may encounter minor graphics related problems that are not listed here in detail. These problems should not affect your workflow. This does not affect qualification for this release.

[p9] Maya 1.0.x plug-ins that require support for C++ exceptions will not function correctly on IRIX 6.2, 6.3 or 6.4 unless patch 2758 is installed on the system. The only plug-in provided with Maya 1.5 that requires this functionality is ribExport, however, third party plug-ins may require it. If you attempt to use such a plug-in without the patch installed, Maya will crash with the error:
Assertion failed in file "../../c++runtime/throw.cxx", line 841
(For the interested: Patch 2758 consists of just the necessary parts of the previously required and now superseded Patch 2483 which was very large.)

[p10] We have unconfirmed reports of crashes with Patch3108 which appears in SGI's Octane patch set for July and later. Patch 3108 is not in any of the currently qualified patch sets for Maya. Since Alias has not yet qualified Maya with Patchsets beyond June, at time of press, we cannot offer any advice.

[p11] On some systems with "NG1" graphics (use /usr/gfx/gfxinfo to find out what your graphic system is) attempting to open the Color Picker or switching between wireframe and shaded mode may cause Maya to crash. Removing Patch 2779 prevents this problem. (So far we've encountered this bug on some R5000 & R4600 Indys and on R4400 Indigo2 XL.)

Known Qualification related problems

[1] [IRIX 6.5] You may see minor graphics discrepancies compared with other systems, but these should not affect your workflow.

[2] Although Maya 1.5 will run on R4000 Indigo and Indy systems, the performance of Indigo R4000s is inadequate for most practical usages of Maya, Indigo R4000 is no longer supported. Alias cannot guarantee that all functionality in this or future versions of Maya will operate. Due to a limitation of some models of R4000 Indigo and Indy systems, they may be unable to run some features of Maya or may be unable to launch it, resulting in "WARNING: Too many contiguous end-of-page jump or divide problems in [maya.exe]". There is no workaround for this.

[3] On Indigo2-HighImpact systems, the Render View window displays a banded (as if 8-bit) view of images even though the data is actually good (24-bit)

[4] Indigo2-XZ systems will experience a variety of graphics related limitations:

[5] Indigo2-Extreme systems will experience the following limitations:

[6] Indigo2-SolidImpact and Indy-XZ will occasionally display NURBS surfaces in black instead of the correct texture in shaded mode.

[7] Onyx InfiniteReality systems will experience the following limitations:

[8] On Onyx-RE2 systems, attempting to perform a Hardware Render Buffer - Render Sequence may result in all black frames.

[9] On Octanes and O2s running IRIX 6.5, the first execution of the playblast command can take 30-180 seconds to initialize. During this time, the application may appear to be frozen. When initialization is complete performance will be normal. Subsequent playblasts will not have this delay.not relevant

[10] Onyx2 InfiniteReality (IR2) systems will experience the following limitations:

[11] On Octane MaxImpact (MXI) running IRIX 6.5, Hardware Render Buffer does not correctly interpret alpha channel in texture files.

[12] Indy-XZ systems will experience the following limitations in shaded mode:

[13] image planes jitter and resize when doing track/dolly/tumble.

[14] On all Octanes but more noticeably on SolidImpact, ESI and EMXI graphics, occasionally during click-drag selection of CVs some appear not to be selected (they remain the deselected color) although they are selected. Additionally, some selected CVs may be visible through other objects in shaded mode.

NOT SUPPORTED
