  • Please Note The Following:
    • StudioTools 10.0 for IRIX is qualified and supported only under the exact OS/Hardware configurations listed below. While it may be possible to use StudioTools 10.0 for IRIX successfully with lower or higher versions of IRIX 6.5, Alias makes no guarantee of their fitness or reliability. StudioTools 10.0 will not run at all under any version of IRIX prior to IRIX 6.5.

    • How To Obtain IRIX 6.5.x
Customers with valid SGI software support should have already received IRIX 6.5. Customers in North America who have not yet received IRIX 6.5, should call the Technical Assistance Center at 1-800-800-4744. International customers should call their local SGI office.

    • 3DCD Notification:
As of version 9.0 the 3DCD no longer ships with Studio. Customers with a 3DCD from a previous product release can continue to use that material in their work. You can access shaders and tutorials using the User Community web pages.

    File Compatibility:
Alias StudioTools 10.0 will read wirefiles written by prior versions, however, prior versions will not be able to read 10.0 wirefiles. We have provided the /usr/aw/alias10.0/bin/from100to97 translator that will convert 10.0 wirefiles to 9.7.x wirefiles. Refer to the utilities documentation for more detailed information.
    Maya
  • Maya 3.0 for IRIX will read StudioTools 9.0 wirefiles.
  • Maya 4.0 & 3.0.1 for IRIX will read StudioTools 9.6.2 wirefiles.
  • StudioTools 10.0 ships with a translator that will convert 10.0 wirefiles to 9.7.x wirefiles. Refer to the utilities documentation for more detailed information.
  • Maya 3.0 & 4.0 for IRIX exports version 8.1 wirefiles
  • Maya 4.5 will read StudioTools 10.0 wirefiles via studioImport.mll (plugin shipped with Maya 4.5).
  • Maya 4.5 exports StudioTools 9.5.2 wirefiles via MayaToAlias.mll (plugin shipped with Maya 4.5)
  • StudioPaint A StudioPaint 9.5 compatibility module is shipped with StudioTools 10.0 allowing for file compatibility between StudioPaint 9.5 and StudioTools 10.0. This module is installed automatically if StudioPaint 9.5 is detected at time of installation. You will not see StudioTools 10.0 as available formats in the StudioPaint Alias file compatibility settings, however if 9.7 is selected then you will be able to retrieve 10.0 wire files.

Any Indy with 8 bit graphics INTERACTIVE APPLICATIONS CANNOT RUN

    [1]

    NOTE:
Interactive performance with CVs on, will be significantly reduced when Performance Options for Dynamic Draw Style are set to 'NORMAL' and the CV Icon draw style for surfaces and curves are not set to display as dots (see Object Display->DrawStyle in the main StudioTools menu.)
    [2]
    NOTE:
When operating with a Dual Display option board, the Alias file browser stretches across both screens but only displays a screen and a half of the actual browser. Switch the Alias file browser to "Name Only" to see all of your files and navigate your directories.
    [3]
    NOTE:
In order to fully utilize StudioTools it is highly recommended that you have Texture memory (TRAM) installed on your workstation. Any IRIX workstation that does not have Texture memory will suffer from poor interactive performance when viewing hardware shaded objects with textures.
    [4]
    NOTE:
Running StudioTools with borders turned OFF will cause palette and shelf icons to be displayed as solid gray. Ensure that borders are enabled in the Palette/Shelves Layout settings under the Preferences->Interface options.
    [5]
    NOTE:
Both Octane2 and Fuel systems have hardware-accelerated specular shading capabilities. StudioTools will make use of this feature in hardware shaded mode when using the default light option in TglShade. While in this mode you will not see any texture or color attributes as defined in the MultiLister.  You must change the lighting options in TglShade to use 'All Lights' or 'Selected Lights' to see color and texture attributes in shaded mode.
    [6]
    NOTE:
Hardware hidden line silhouette does not draw correctly on Vpro graphics cards. You will notice poor performance and quality with the hardware hidden line functionality.

Platforms marked Untested have not been tested in any way by Alias, and at time of press are NOT Qualified.
Platforms marked Unsupported: indicate that StudioTools cannot operate to our standard of performance, stability or quality and at time of press are NOT Qualified.

    Hardware Notes

    • For any product other than Render Software, all SGIs require a z-buffer, except Indy XL, and Indigo2 XL.
    • Eight-bit graphics configurations are not supported.
    • A minimum of 128MB of RAM is required, however increasing the amount of memory will increase the performance of Alias. It is important to note that IRIX 6.5 requires more system memory than previous versions of IRIX and will likely degrade the performance of Alias if you are running low on memory.
