Platforms marked Untested have not been tested in any way by Alias, and at time of press are NOT Qualified. These pages will continue to be updated as new hardware is qualified.
Platforms marked Unsupported indicate that StudioTools cannot operate to our standard of performance, stability or quality and at time of press are NOT Qualified.

Notes:
 [1]  Fx4 graphics may be purchased with or without TRAM (texture memory). For optimal performance within StudioTools, it is recommended that only Fx4 graphics with the TRAM option be used.
 [2]  StudioTools has been qualified for use with the following configurations of the HP-UX Operating System:
  • HP-UX 11.0 Core OS November, 1999 release plus June, 2000 Quality Pack (HP-UX 11.0 Core OS Options -- Graphics and Technical Computing), Quality Pack March 2002 (Part Number: B3782-10495) and required patches
  • HP-UX 11i (HP-UX 11.11) June, 2001 release plus Quality Pack March 2002 SP-0203 (Part Number: 5012-0050) and required patches.
  •  [3]  Patches for HP-UX may be downloaded at: software.hp.com

    Important Notes Regarding Kernel Configuration:

    Because of large memory and swap requirements for StudioTools, the HP-UX kernel must be reconfigured for StudioTools to run properly.
    Without these kernel settings, StudioTools may return memory and/or swap errors and possibly crash on large datasets.
    The following procedure is documented in both the installation README file on the StudioTools CD and in the printed installation guide. This process is repeated here because of its importance to the normal operation of StudioTools

    The following is an overview of how to tune your kernel:

  • Capture the current settings
  • Tune the kernel settings to a new parameter set
  • Rebuild the kernel and move it into place (automatic)

    This process requires root (superuser) privileges and should only be attempted by experienced HP-UX users or system administrators.

    If you are currently using this system for any other software, proceed with caution. These settings could introduce instabilities with other programs. If you have any doubts about possible conflicts with other applications, please do not change these settings without first consulting documentation or technical support services for other software makers.

    To Proceed:
    (1) example% su
    (login as root, enter password)
    (2) example% kmtune
    (This dumps the current kernel setting to the shell -- keep a copy (as a text file) in case you need to revert any values)
    NOTE: If running in a normal user window manager session, use xhost + in a terminal run as the normal user:
    example% xhost +
    This allows another user (root) to run applications on current user's display. This is not needed if running as root from the window manager login.
    (4) example% sam
    (start SAM)
    (5) Select the following icons in SAM:
    Kernel Configuration-->Configurable Parameters
    From the Configurable Parameters window, select from the menus:
    Actions-->Apply Tuned Parameter Set
    (6) Select the following parameter set:
    "CAE/ME General Engineering Workstation 64-bit Kernel"
    and choose [Okay]
    (7) From the Configurable Parameters window select:
    Actions-->Process New Kernel
    (8) When prompted, confirm that you wish to rebuild the kernel and have SAM move the new kernel into place and reboot when completed (these are the default actions)
    (9) The kernel takes several minutes to rebuild -- no interaction is required at this point. After the new kernel is moved into place, the system will prompt the user to reboot the machine.

  • Important Notes:
    Please Read
  • A three button mouse is required.
  • At least 128 MB of RAM is required and 256 MB is recommended to run StudioTools for HP-UX.
  • It may be possible to successfully use StudioTools for HP-UX with a non-qualified configuration, but support and maintenance programs will be subject to the Alias Support Services guidelines.
  • The information in this document is current as of publication date (see top of page). Alias will continue to explore new candidates for StudioTools HP-UX qualification and will monitor the current configurations. For the most recent information on qualification, please refer to www.aliaswavefront.com/qual_charts/.
