Solo a paint layer

When you have multiple paint layers for a mesh, you can quickly view the paint from a single layer by soloing that layer in the Paint Layers window. You can also choose to display the solo paint layer with flat color, which can make it easier to edit specific layer channels such as Opacity, Specular, Bump, and so on.

To solo a paint layer

  1. Select the paint layer you want to isolate.
  2. Click the Layers window menu () or right-click the selected layer and select Solo Selected from the pop-up menu.
TipYou can also Alt-click the layer Visibility icon to solo the layer.

Only paint from the selected layer displays on your model, and paint from all other layers is temporarily hidden. The Visibility icon for the soloed layer displays in yellow, and Visibility for all other layers is turned off.

To solo a paint layer and display with flat color

  1. Select the paint layer.
  2. Click the Layers window menu () or right-click the selected layer and select Solo As Diffuse.
TipBy default, you can also Alt-click the layer Visibility icon to solo the layer. To have the Alt-click hotkey solo the paint layer and display paint as flat color, you can change the Alt-Click Paint Layer Visibility preference to Solo as Diffuse.

Only paint from the selected layer displays on your model, with paint displaying in flat color.

To unsolo a paint layer

  1. Click the Layers window menu () or right-click the selected layer and select Unsolo.

Paint from all visible layers displays on your model again.
