Set the following transition attribute preferences.

Length field

Set the default length for dissolve and wipe transitions.

Transition Alignment box

Set the default alignment for dissolves, wipes, axis, and custom transitions to Centred, From Cut, or Up To Cut.

Transition Interpolation box

Set the default interpolation for transition curves to either Bézier or Linear.
