The Mudbox user interface is designed to be easy to learn and use. This page describes the various sections of the interface.
A: Menu Bar, B: Viewer, C: Trays, D: Managers, E: Properties, F: Status Bar
The Main Menu contains menus listing commands organized by task.
Viewers provide spaces for viewing and editing things. Viewers include the 3D View and the Image Browser.
The 3D View is the viewport into the 3d world. By default, the 3D View displays the world through the perspective camera. Another camera can be "looked through" by selecting and right-clicking it in the Object List.
The Image Browser offers a quick way to view and select images on a hard drive. Use the image browser to
Trays hold collections of items. Items can be added, removed or
renamed using the tray menu . Items on a tray can be reordered by
click-dragging with the MMB.
Mudbox provides 5 default trays, but custom trays can be created using the Custom command in the tray menu.
All trays are stored in the Trays directory (usually here: C:\Program Files\Mudbox\Mudbox 1.0\trays) as text files that can be edited externally. Each line of the text file is organized respecting the following convention: object/tool type;name;icon;label.
Managers manage particular subsets of the application. Managers currently include the Object List and the Layers window.
Properties displays the properties of objects and tools.
By default, the Properties window automatically updates to display the properties of an object or tool when it is selected. The "Lock Window To" option will lock the window to the current a) object or b) object type. "Locking to Object Type" means the window will update only to display the properties of other selected objects or tools that are of the same type as the current object or tool. For example, if a mesh's properties are displayed when Lock Window To Object Type is selected, the window will update to display other meshes' properties but will not display Stencil or Tool properties.
Multiple Properties windows can be open at the same time. Each
window can be locked to different objects or object types. The
Properties window menu contains the Duplicate Window command which spawns a
duplicate Properties window locked to the current object.
The Status Bar provides feedback to the user and offers information about the status of the scene.
