About the DGN Import Plug-in

DGN is a file format commonly used by Bentley MicroStation®. Using the Autodesk® Design Review DGN Import plug-in, you can import a 2D V8 DGN file into Design Review 2009. During the import process, Design Review publishes a new DWF file from the DGN file. The original file is unaffected by the import process.

Design Review 2009 requires the 2009 version of the DGN Import Plug-in. After installing Design Review 2009, download the 2009 version of the DGN Import Plug-in from Autodesk.com and install it separately.

Install the DGN Import Plug-in

Before you can import a DGN file into Design Review, you must first install the free DGN Import plug-in.

To install the DGN Import plug-in

If necessary, exit Design Review 2009.
On the plug-in Web page, click the EXE file.
When prompted, click Run.
Follow the installation wizard’s prompts.

The next time you start Design Review, in the Import File dialog box, the Files of Type drop-down list will display DGN (*.dgn) as an option.

Use the DGN Import Plug-in

To import a DGN file

Choose File > Import. The Import File dialog box opens.
From the Files of Type drop-down list, select DGN (*.dgn).
Navigate to where the DGN file you want to import is stored.
Select the file you want to import and click Open. The published DWF file opens in Design Review.
Note: While importing a message box may open, stating that some data loss may occur in the imported DWF file. Click OK to continue importing or click Cancel to stop the import.

Tip: To quickly import a DGN file, you can drag and drop a DGN file into the Canvas Pane of Design Review.

Known Issues

Model space for a DGN file lacks a paper size. As such, the import process provides a default paper size for this data in the DWF file.
When importing some DGN files, view camera angles may not display as expected in the resulting DWF file.
When importing some DGN files, some view attributes set in MicroStation may not be imported into the resulting DWF file.
When importing DGN files, saved views are not imported as named views in the resulting DWF file.
After importing a DGN file, some internal linestyles may not display as expected in the resulting DWF file.
When importing DGN files, multiline overwrite dimension text is not translated properly.
When importing DGN files, the Units Separator in metric formatted dimension text is not imported.
When importing some DGN files, dimensions may not display as expected in the resulting DWF file.
Gradients in hatch in MS XM cannot be imported properly. Currently, the first color of the gradient is used to fill hatch.
Hollow text in DGN files is imported as solid text, so the weight of the text cannot be imported properly.
The DGN Import Plug-in cannot import V7 DGN files.
Interpolation curve is not imported properly.
Some of the Pattern Area cannot be translated properly.
