What Is the Save As 2000 Enabler?

The Save As 2000 Enabler enhances the functionality of the Save As command in Autodesk Land Desktop 2004 and Autodesk Civil Series 2004. By installing this enabler, you can use the Save As command on the File menu to save Autodesk Land Desktop 2004 drawings to the AutoCAD 2000 format. The 2000 drawing format can be read by AutoCAD 2000 and 2002 as well as by Autodesk Map 4.5, 5, and 6.

For more information on sharing drawings by using the Save As 2000 Enabler and the Export to AutoCAD command, see the White Paper entitled "Sharing Autodesk Land Desktop 2004 Drawings," available on the Autodesk Land Desktop Utilities and Drivers website (http://www.autodesk.com/landdesktop-support > Data & Downloads > Utilities & Drivers).

What Is the Difference Between Save As 2000 Format and Export to AutoCAD 2000 Format?

Both the enhanced Save As command, available with this Save As 2000 Enabler, and the Export to AutoCAD command already available in Autodesk Land Desktop 2004 on the File menu, allow you to save drawings in the AutoCAD 2000 format. However, each method treats Autodesk Land Desktop 2004 objects differently. When deciding which of these methods to use, keep in mind the following general guidelines:

The advantage of using the Save As method is that the original objects are intact when the drawing is brought back into Autodesk Land Desktop 2004. Note, however, that you cannot manipulate Autodesk Land Desktop 2004 objects in an AutoCAD 2000-based application, because the objects are proxies.

Important: Autodesk Land Desktop 2004 drawings that have been saved in the 2000 format should not be opened in Autodesk Land Desktop 2i or 3. These previous releases are not equipped to handle Autodesk Land Desktop 2004 objects. However, you can Xref these drawings to a 2i or 3 drawing and still have full access to the external project data. For more information, see "How Can I Use My 2004 Drawings in a Previous Version of Autodesk Land Desktop?".
