Autodesk Land Desktop 2004 Service Pack 2
In a continuing effort to provide high quality products, Autodesk has released
Autodesk Land Desktop 2004 Service Pack 2, which fixes or addresses a variety
of issues discovered by customers or by Autodesk's internal testing team.
This service pack includes fixes for Autodesk Land Desktop 2004 as well as
for AutoCAD 2004 and Autodesk Map 2004. This service pack also includes all
the fixes that were provided in Autodesk Land Desktop 2004 Service Pack 1.
This Readme contains the latest information regarding the installation
and use of this service pack. It is strongly recommended that you read this
entire document before you apply the service pack to your product. For your
reference, you should save this Readme to your hard drive or print a
copy.
This Readme includes the following topics:
Who Should Install
the Service Pack?
This service pack is for the English-language locked and unlocked versions
of Autodesk Land Desktop 2004 running on English-language and non-English-language
operating systems. This service pack should not be installed on other versions
of Autodesk Land Desktop, AutoCAD, or other AutoCAD desktop applications.
If you have been experiencing some specific product performance problems, they
may have been fixed with this service pack. For more information on the specific
fixes, see Summary of Primary Issues Resolved for Autodesk
Land Desktop 2004.
Locked and Unlocked Service Packs
The following Autodesk Land Desktop 2004 Service Pack 2 versions are available
on the Autodesk website:
- LDT2004_SP2_SL.exe (locked version)
- LDT2004_SP2_UL.exe (unlocked version)
Use the following guidelines to determine which service pack to download.
- Download and install the locked version of the service pack if you are using
one of the following:
- Educational or trial version of Autodesk Land Desktop 2004
- International version of Autodesk Land Desktop 2004 (The International
version contains the word "International" on the product label
affixed to the outside of the Autodesk Land Desktop 2004 package and the
word "locked" on the CD label.)
- Download and install the unlocked version of the service pack in all other
instances.
General Information
-
It is recommended that you create a backup of all custom MNU, MNS, MNR,
MNL, and MNC files before installing the service pack.
-
During the installation of this update, you will be prompted for the
original installation CD or network image.
-
Download progress may not be indicated during the update.
Important: You cannot run an automatic uninstall to remove this service
pack. All files are affected by the installation of this service pack. To restore
your version of Autodesk Land Desktop 2004 to its pre-service pack state, uninstall
Autodesk Land Desktop 2004 and reinstall it.
Updating the Windows Registry
To operate Autodesk Land Desktop 2004 properly after installing Service Pack
2, one of the two conditions must occur:
- Each user should run Autodesk Land Desktop 2004 at least one time prior
to installing this service pack, or
- Each user should run the LdtRegUp.exe file available from the Service
Pack website if Autodesk Land Desktop 2004 was not run at least one time prior
to installing the service pack
Failure to do so could result in Autodesk Map running when attempting to run
Autodesk Land Desktop 2004.
To run the LdtRegUp.exe:
- Download the LdtRegUp.exe file from the Service Pack website.
- Double-click the file to run it.

Summary of Primary Issues Resolved for Autodesk
Land Desktop 2004
- The program no longer crashes when opening a drawing that has an Autodesk
Architectural Desktop 3.x drawing attached as an xref.
- The Utilities > Build Selection Set command no longer hangs if you
click any of the Names In Drawing buttons but do not select anything in
the displayed dialog boxes.
- A general exception no longer occurs when using the Terrain > 3D Polylines
> Create By Slope command.
- Point performance is improved when using high point numbers, or when large
gaps exist between point numbers.
The following list describes the fixes included in Service Pack 1, which
are also included in Service Pack 2:
Resolved Issues with Architectural Desktop Drawings
Resolved Issues with the Windows NT Operating System
- The Terrain Model Explorer menus are now displayed correctly when using
Autodesk Land Desktop 2004 on a Windows NT operating system.
- Browse buttons, such as for selecting a point file to import, or for creating
an XDRef, are now working correctly when using Autodesk Land Desktop 2004
on a Windows NT operating system.
Resolved Issues with the Windows XP Operating System
- In the the Drawing Setup dialog box, the buttons on the Load/Save Settings
tab and the Browse button on the Text Style tab now work correctly when
using Autodesk Land Desktop 2004 on a Windows XP operating system.
Resolved Issues with XRefs
- You can now use the XRef Manager button on the AutoCAD application window
to manage XRef drawings in Autodesk Land Desktop 2004. Previously, this
caused an exception error.
Resolved Issues with AutoCAD Tool Palettes
- You will no longer experience a crash when you click an .atc file you
have dragged onto a Tool Palette.
Resolved Issues with Export to AutoCAD
- You can now change the way that the Export to AutoCAD command handles
xrefs. In this service pack, a new AEC Editor tab has been added to the
AutoCAD options dialog box which you can use to change some of the Export
to AutoCAD settings. By default, the Export to AutoCAD command in Autodesk
Land Desktop 2004 would bind all attached xrefs. By clearing the Bind Xrefs
check box on the AEC Editor tab, you can prevent xrefs from being bound.
Resolved Issues with LandXML
- The number of description keys to export is now listed correctly in the
LandXML Export dialog box when you select the Include Description Key Definitions
check box in the LandXML Export Points dialog box.
- If a LandXML file that you are attempting to import is missing critical
data, such as the start point of a parcel, the Import LandXML command now
warns you of the missing data rather than displaying a run-time error.
- The LandXML Import Point Filters dialog box now has the correct title.
Resolved Issues with Description Keys
- A defect in Autodesk Land Desktop 2004 caused description keys to ignore
the capitalization, or case, of description key codes. For example, a description
key named TOPO was treated the same way as topo. With this service pack,
the description key codes are once again case-sensitive.
Resolved Issues with XDRefs
- XDRef overrides for points are now working correctly. Previously, the
overrides appeared as a period (.) for elevations and were blank for descriptions.
Resolved Issues with Point Formats
- Using the Points > Import/Export Points > Format Manager command
to create new User Point File formats no longer causes exception errors.
Resolved Issues with Surfaces
- The Offset by Elevation, Copy by Slope, and Copy by Grade commands on
the Terrain > Contour Utilities menu now offset contours correctly.
- The Edit Breaklines command now correctly respects multiple vertex elevation
edits.
Resolved Issues with ActiveX Components
- Late binding of Autodesk Land Desktop 2004 ActiveX objects now functions
correctly. Attempts to access methods or properties on late bound objects
resulted in errors. Certain programming languages, such as VLisp, bind to
COM Object via a mechanism referred to as “late binding” to access an Active
X object through its IDispatch interface. In order for late binding to work,
the COM Object itself has a version that must match the version of the type
library, otherwise an error will result when methods or properties of the
COM Object are called. In Autodesk Land Desktop 2004, there was a mismatch
between the AeccApplication object and the type library. This has been corrected.
Programming languages using “early binding” as their default mechanism for
COM object access are working as expected in Autodesk Land Desktop 2004.
These languages include VB, VBA and C++.
Summary of Primary Issues Resolved for Autodesk
Map 2004
- Fixes the causes of several intermittently
encountered crashes as follows:
- when executing the command line
version of MapImport, and
- when editing the Timestamp value
after opening an Oracle table containing a Timestamp (Oracle DATE) column
in the Data Viewer.
- Topology name and description are
now remembered and restored even if a create topology operation fails.
- Drawing cleanup will now affect
only the selected polyline(s), instead of automatically selecting the entire
object.
- The numeric boundary values in the
Plot Boundary Selection dialog box are now displayed in numerical order.
- Map property ranges are now applied
automatically when creating an object.
- Oblique Text Style will now appear
when executing map queries.
- The MapUtil object in the ActiveX
API is now accessible via the Project.MapUtil property.
Summary of Primary Issues Resolved for AutoCAD
