================================================== Notice to Autodesk Inventor Professional Customers ================================================== In a continuing effort to provide high quality products, Autodesk has released Autodesk Inventor Professional 9 Service Pack 2**, which fixes or addresses a variety of issues pertaining to Autodesk Inventor Professional 9. This README file highlights how to install the patch, what has been fixed, and how to download the update. ================================================================================ CONTENTS ========= - Installation Instructions - Issues Addressed by this Service Pack - Corrections to Help topics - Summary of issues addressed in Autodesk Inventor Professional 9 SP2. - Service Pack Download Location ================================================================================ INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS ========================= NOTE: This patch update only applies to the Autodesk Inventor Professional 9 product. A separate patch is available for Autodesk Inventor Series 9. (1) Download the Autodesk Inventor Professional 9 Service Pack 2 patch file “Inventor9_AIP_SP2.exe" *You must have Administrator privileges on your local machine to install Autodesk Inventor 9 Professional Service Pack 2* **You must already have AIP9SP1 installed to install AIP9SP2. (2) Double-click on the downloaded file. This is an exe patch file. You will also have a progress meter on your screen while the setup program is updating the files on your system. (3) To verify the Autodesk Inventor Professional 9 Service Pack 2 was installed successfully you will have an information dialog box appear on your screen stating "…Setup completed successfully". You will receive a confirmation message for both Autodesk Inventor and the applications modules of Autodesk Inventor Professional. (4) You should NOT need to reboot your system after the service pack has been installed and you should not be prompted to reboot between updating Autodesk Inventor and the applications modules of Autodesk Inventor Professional. (5) For final verification, from within the program select "About Autodesk Inventor" from the help pull down menu. If Autodesk Inventor 9 Service Pack 2 has been successfully installed the product build will read "Build: 147, Release: 9 SP2 – Date: Thu 12/16/2004"* ================================================================================ ISSUES ADDRESSED BY THIS UPDATE ================================= Corrections to Help Topics: --------------------------- Positional representations -------------------------- In a positional representation, adaptivity is deferred. Adaptive part features do not update. Adaptive assemblies are implicitly flexible and will update, but the results are not pushed down to the subassembly. Please note corrections to the following Help topics: “To create a drawing view using an assembly positional representation” The Note incorrectly states that you can reassign a positional variation to a drawing view after its creation. You cannot apply a different positional representation after you create a drawing view., You can override values in the positional representation, and the drawing view updates using the changed values. “To create and edit a positional representation” - In the “To create a positional representation” section, Step 4 should state that you must establish overrides to constraints or components. - In the “To edit a positional representation” section, Step 2 should state that you must select a component or constraints, right-click, and then select Override. Omit Step 3. - In the “To delete a positional representation” section, the steps should read: 1.In the browser, click the Representations folder to expand. 2.Right-click the appropriate positional representation, and then select Delete. If the deleted representation was active, the master becomes the active representation. If you deleted a representation by mistake, click Undo to restore it. Flexible assemblies ------------------- Note corrections to the following Help topics: “To create and edit flexible components” Subassemblies are often used several times in a design. Make subassemblies flexible so that each child of the subassembly can solve uniquely from other instances to show each in a different position. 1. Right-click a subassembly in the graphics window or the browser, and then select Flexible. An icon denoting the flexible state marks the subassembly in the browser. 2. To remove flexibility, right-click a flexible subassembly, and then clear the check mark. “Comparing flexible and adaptive assemblies” Subassemblies are commonly used multiple times in one or more assemblies. Within an assembly, you often want to see a subassembly in multiple positions, such as a hydraulic piston in fully extended, partially extended, and closed positions. You may also need to see components in different shapes and positions relative to fixed objects. Autodesk Inventor has two methods of evaluating component kinematic configurations: - Adaptive assemblies The assembly itself adapts by changing the position and size of its components. Degrees of freedom are left open, but an adaptive component is constrained to fixed objects. All instances of a component are affected equally by an adapted size, shape, or position. Changes are saved to the individual component files when they are required to adapt in the assembly. - Flexible assemblies Each instance of a flexible assembly can solve separately, so that each instance can be in a unique position. Unlike an adaptive subassembly, the subassembly is not modified. Degrees of freedom are left open so that the components can change position. The flexible state for each instance is stored only in the consuming assembly, not in individual components. Results can be stored in a higher assembly, not just a component’s parent assembly. A component cannot be both flexible and adaptive. The states are set by options in the context menu, and can be turned on and off, as needed. “Learn about flexible assemblies” Under “What are some guidelines for using flexible assemblies?” the guidelines should be: - Parts cannot be flexible. - Assembly features, such as weld beads, are calculated on the master state of the assembly and are not recalculated for each flexed position. - Flexible components cannot be used in patterns. What’s New: ----------- Please note the following correction in a topic: Drawings > Annotation Improvements The first bullet erroneously states that text can be freely rotated. Instead, text formatting is controlled by the text style defined in the Styles and Standards Library. Text rotation can be specified for both label text and note text. ========================================================================================== Summary of the issues addressed in Autodesk Inventor Professional 9 Service Pack 2 include: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: CER stands for Crash Error Report Cable & Harness- ================ Fixed the following: - Cabling commands fail to work correctly on the WindowsXP SP2 platform.
